It is an exciting time, the time leading up to the camping trip of the year. This is something you have planned all summer. But, before you leave, there are some important things to remember. Camping can be far more fun if it is properly planned.
Meal Prep
Deciding what you are going to have for meals ahead of time will allow you to pack for those meals. Sometimes it only makes sense to premake some of the meals so that you just have to warm them up.
Others are fun to make such as grill packets with foil. These are typically meat, potato, veggie, and some seasonings with a bit of water and butter. Put everything into the tinfoil and fold it up. Cook it just like that. This is a fun meal idea that the kids really enjoy. But, you can actually make the packets at home before you leave, to have them ready for the fire with ease.
Planning Where
This is probably one of the more important camping planning trip suggestions. You need to know where you’d like to camp. Also, how you’d like to camp. Backwoods camping for example or in a campground.
Or an RV park is also considered camping. So, plan where you want to go and see. Plan what you’d like to do and see while you are there as well. Camping can be a lot of fun but you don’t just want to sit at the campsite all day, every day. Have some plans to go see local things or go on a hike.
Plan Packing
There are a lot of packing lists that you can find for camping on the internet. However, you can also make your own. You will want to ensure that you have a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, lighting, food, clothing, cosmetics, dishware, cleaners, a small shovel, and a multipurpose tool at the very least. However, it depends on what you call essential and how much you really want to “rough” it. If you want a good start, take a look at our family camping packing list.
Power Sources
When we are home, we typically charge our phones and devices without worry. But, when we are camping there isn’t always a power source. If you are going to a campground where you will have power, then this isn’t so important. But, if you are going backwoods camping, you will need to decide how much power you should bring along in batteries. Or what type of power source you should bring. There are various solar options too.
Check the Weather
Check the weather! This is really important so that you can plan for it. Always over-prepare as the weathermen are not super reliable. But, having an idea of what to expect will certainly make the trip more enjoyable.
Practice
This may sound funny or you might look a little weird in your backyard, but practice setting everything up in the yard or nearby park. This will allow you to figure out the tent, what is needed and you may even discover you need to take something along that you didn’t think of. Doing a practice set up a run just makes sense.
Now that you have these 6 important tips to get you ready for your next camping trip, you can feel at ease that you’re prepared!
