Fish attractors are something that are man-made ways to house fish.  They are a way to create shelter for the fish. This will attract them and pull them out of their other natural hiding spots.

Better yet, if there aren’t many hiding spots, this will provide them with one. They can be made of just about anything but should be swimmable. Swimmable meaning that the fish should find pleasure in swimming in and out of the various branches of the fish attractor.

Often times fish attractors have spikes and spines that look similar to a dandelion poof. They are very airy but also offer a means of hiding for the fish. These sorts of devices are perfect for helping the fish population and setting up a wonderful place where you can go fishing regularly as well.

Study the Fish

Fish attractors aren’t just something you dump into a lake.  You need to study the fish habits and understand where the best spot for such a device might be.  Just because you have a beautiful underwater brush pile, doesn’t mean the fish will come. Like with anything in fishing you need to understand what the traits are for the fish in that particular waterway.

For example, if the lake is manmade and has a lot of remaining brush below, then, the fish already have plenty of covers, and may not need another one.

The depth of your fish attractor is important as well. Sure, you can attract fish at just about any depth, however, the point of the fish attractor is to be able to fish the spot eventually.  Most fish like to hang out in 35 feet of water or less. Sure, they will go deeper when it gets really warm, but not for long, which is why this seems to be a good depth to set up fish attractors.

How Attractors Work

Attractors typically attract baitfish. These are small fish looking to hide from the game fish, or they might become lunch. This is why it is a great fishing spot. As you will have those fish hiding and those looking for lunch. Fishermen love a good fish attractor as it makes for a day of fishing fulfilling and quite easy really.

When placing a fish attractor, be sure to carry along a GPS. You will want to pinpoint it on the GPS so that you can return to the exact location that you dropped it at. This will allow you to easily monitor the fish attractor to ensure that it is working as you would expect. Not all fish attractors will work, for whatever reason.

It is important that you monitor it, if it doesn’t seem to start attracting fish, then it may need to be moved. Moving a fish attractor can be quite a job, which is why it is important to study the location where you plan to place it in the first place.
