I have put up a top 10 hiking gear list for this year, which can be a mix of the oldies but goodies and newbies. There are so many great and amazing hiking gear out there. This isn’t your grandparent’s days, these days are filled with innovation even in the hiking and camping world.

Since many times you have to hold things together in your pack and this is a reusable rubber twist tie. They show it on garden hoses, however, they would be great for looping on backpacks or chairs and other gear.

NEMO’s sleeping bags are a wonderful choice for sleeping comfort. Katadyn BeFree Water Filter
The Katadyn BeFree Collapsible Water Filter Bottle is a high flow and lightweight water bottle designed to filter water while hiking. They offer a 1 liter and 20 oz bottle size version and have a 1000 liter capacity. They then will need to be replaced. With a large opening at the top, they can filter 1 liter of water in 30 seconds.
This non-standard size does make it incompatible with other things that are made for hiking using the standard water bottle opening. The filter will filter out .1 micron which will work with most of North America’s water supplies taking out the protozoa and bacteria, however, it will not filter out viruses.
