How To Make The Perfect S’mores

Ahh..the age-old question, How To Make The Perfect S’mores?  This is a question that has been around probably as long as S’mores themselves. Is the marshmallow burnt or not burnt, dark or milk chocolate, and cookie or graham cracker. Sure you have the basic S’more with chocolate, graham cracker, and toasted or burnt marshmallow. But, there are certainly some other versions that shouldn’t be left out and if you haven’t tried them, well, we recommend that you certainly do!

Peanut Butter Cup S’mores

These are amazing!  Instead of plain chocolate, use peanut butter cups instead. Why? Have you ever met a Peanut Butter cup that wasn’t tasty?  Go ahead, try it, roast your marshmallow to your perfection and place it between two graham crackers. Yum!!

Don’t have peanut butter cups?  What about just peanut butter, this will add that nutty goodness with the layer of chocolate, and marshmallow.  And, it gives the treat a little protein boost for those with sugar issues.

Hazelnut Spread S’mores

Have you tried the hazelnut spreads?  The nutty flavor to the chocolate is oh so yummy.  Why not put it on your s’more instead of chocolate bars.  After all, it is good all on its own. And, we won’t ever tell you how to toast or burn your marshmallow, to each their own on that one!

Indoor S’mores

Indoor s’mores are smores made on the stove or over a candle.  Some are adventurous enough and use the microwave as well. However, this can end up being a rather sticky situation.  Marshmallows tend to explode and then you have marshmallow fluff all over.

A great way to make indoor smores is in the oven as well.  Lay the graham cracker on the cookie sheet with the chocolate piece on top and bake until the marshmallows are golden brown.

Or use alcohol campfires inside!  This is a great way to get your camping fix without going outdoors.

And, if you really like S’mores they even have kits you can purchase to make them indoors.  Most people use the other above mentions, however, it is something that does exist!

At any rate, if you are attempting S’mores indoors be sure to do this with caution.  If you have flames involved have a fire extinguisher nearby. And, using other methods, watch the marshmallows.  Exploding marshmallows is not fun to clean up or easy for that matter.

People love the cookies the chocolate, coconut, and caramel over the graham cracker cookie.  Why not replicate that with a roasted marshmallow addition. Get caramel-filled chocolate, added toasted coconut, and a roasted marshmallow for an added yum.

Candied Bacon

Have some bacon leftover from the morning breakfast, okay, whoever has bacon left over?  We know, so first, make up the bacon in a skillet or in foil. Add a little brown sugar to it and caramelize it.  You want crispy bacon for this. This will add a layer of salty to the already sweet treat and an extra yum.

There you have it some creative ways to make the amazing camping S’more we have all come to love.  How to make the perfect S’more you ask, well, there is not just one answer. Be sure to try some of these!

How To Make The Perfect S'mores

S’mores and camping may very well be the perfect combination, except for one drawback – you may not always have the time to get a good campfire going to make these treats, so we decided to put together a quick recipe for you that you can make ahead of time and keep on hand for those late-night cravings or really just any time you’re in the mood for a little piece of camping heaven.

This really will be a super simple recipe to put together and the only things you’ll need are your standard s’mores making ingredients – graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.  We opted for using mini marshmallows and chocolate chips instead of bars since we’d be melting it, but there’s really no wrong way to make a s’mores so feel free to experiment if you have other ingredients on hand.

We started out by lining a cookie sheet with wax paper, then putting down a layer of graham crackers to create the base.  Next, we poured over a batch of melted chocolate and smoothed it out flat to completely cover the graham crackers.  Ideally, you should use a double boiler to melt your chocolate, but if you don’t have one you can always just put some chocolate chips in a bowl and microwave them until they’re melty.

While the chocolate is still melty, drop some marshmallows on top and lightly press them in so they’ll stick into the chocolate.  The next step is optional if you happen to have a blowtorch on hand, but we opted to go for it since the toasted marshmallow flavor adds an extra element of camping goodness.  If you do decide to use a small blowtorch or pastry torch to toast your marshmallows as we did, be sure to go slow so you don’t burn the marshmallows, and also be careful or your wax paper, you don’t want to set it on fire!

For an added layer of visual appeal, we garnished our s’mores bars with a little bit of crushed graham crackers and then streusel some melted chocolate over the whole thing.  Once we finished making it pretty, we placed it in the fridge to firm up, and then about an hour later cut it into manageable pieces.

You can also opt to just break it into smaller pieces by hand if you like a more rustic style, but no matter how you break it into smaller pieces, it will still be absolutely delicious!

One additional note here, this is a great recipe to make with the kids (minus the blowtorching!) and they’ll have fun getting hands-on with the marshmallows and chocolate, or at minimum, they’ll surely love eating them!

I have been camping and going outdoors for over 15 years! My first experience was when I joined the scouts. There I learned a lot. From building a campfire to set up a really big tent. Then I know this is awesome. Around 2005 I also started Geocaching. This is a lot of fun. And every time we go camping we look at the map to see if there are some nice caches around.
