Before you head out camping you should check the weather and see what is expected for your area. Remember, this is a prediction and isn’t always accurate but a good guess. You should always take rain gear even if it is summer or a season that has rain.
And, in any season you should pack to layer. This means that you need to be prepared for just about any temperature condition. In the winter months, you will obviously need more layers than in the hot summer months but layers are important.

Camping in the Rain
Camping doesn’t always happen with nice sunny weather. Sometimes the weather can be rainy, cold, and not so pleasant. But, it really is what you make of it as well. Watching a rainstorm inside your tent covered in warm blankets is far more peaceful than watching it outside hiking without a raincoat. There are ways to keep the rain off and have a good time with the use of tarps.
You just need to be prepared in case there are rain issues. If you are prepared for rain then it is far less miserable than if you didn’t. So, ensure your tent is sprayed for waterproofing. Do not touch the sides as this can invite the water in. And, bring a couple of tarps along. The tarps can be used over the tent as an added measure and you can use them outside and create a seating space that everyone can gather and have fun with card games or board games.
Remember to eat when it is cold or rainy. Eating warm foods and comfort foods will allow your body to stay warm and heated. There are all kinds of great food options out there, try something different, or cook over the fire in a dutch oven. Camping in cooler temperatures allows you to enjoy some of those hot foods that you would rather not when it is summer.
Summertime Camping
Summertime presents an entirely new set of issues. When it is cooler, it is easy to dress in layers and bring along a lot of blankets. But, tents can be miserable in the summertime when it is hot. Plan for this and ensure you pick a great tent location where there are a breeze and shade. Be sure that you have coolers for perishable food.
And, you will need a source for more ice should you plan to stay longer than your cooler can hold. Pack plenty of water. This goes for all camping in all types of weather. But, you should always pack extra water in the hot season. You can even pack the water as ice, put it in the cooler, and drink from it as it melts, to save space.
Winter Camping
Camping in the snow can be an enjoyable experience as well. You should always have enough clothing and spare dry hats, gloves, and socks, just in case. Be sure that you bring winter sleeping bags and sleeping mats to protect your body heat from the cold ground.
You will need to make a fire for warmth and cooking. This is the best weather for soul food and comfort food and you will need quite a bit of it, as your body burns calories rather quickly when it is cold.
