Introducing your kids to nature can be done in a variety of ways. However, when you are taking your child out into nature your stance is important as well. If you don’t like hiking or nature walks, then don’t do them, find a different way to show them how amazing nature is.

Maybe go to the beach and watch for small fish nip at your toes, plant a garden, do some bird and squirrel watching at a local park. There are so many things that you can do in nature and it really is a natural way to destress. Remember, not everything is for everyone, but try to find something that all can enjoy.

There is no bad weather if you are dressed appropriately. Okay, there are some extremes but if it is a bit chilly outside, dress for it!  Not only should you dress for it, but you should dress your children for it too. Having the right clothing can allow you to enjoy your time outdoors without being cold or hot.

Gardening might seem too hard.  But, really you just need a pot, if you don’t want to make a huge garden. Tomatoes and even bush cucumbers grow well in pots and they are simple to maintain and weed as well. If you are the type that would like a bit of a larger garden, don’t think you have to dig up a field in the backyard.

That flower bed on the site of the house will work as well. Plant some plants within the flower beds and you have less weeding to deal with.

Go on Nature Hikes

If you do like nature hikes, GREAT! There are so many places to walk in nature. While on these walks, to keep the kids’ attention, maybe do a nature bingo where they have to find a maple leaf, spider, rock, and a log for example. This will get them looking and pique their curiosity. These are simple things but they can make a huge difference.

Go on a picnic more often. Eating outside is a great time to be one with nature. Pack a lunch and get on a nature trail or go to the local park and enjoy the birds and squirrels and other wildlife that is running about.

Just be sure that you take everything you bring into nature, out. Many times there are trash receptacles at parks for your use, however, most nature trails don’t have this option. Just keep in mind, whatever you do in nature, try not to disrupt it too much.

Younger kids are going to be fascinated by some of the littlest things, but let them be! Let them explore that acorn cap and the tadpoles in the pond.

Of course, we believe camping is a wonderful way to get your kids in nature. You can explore as we have mentioned above and sleep under the stars all at the same time! Camping is a wonderful way to teach kids about building fires and how important it is to clean up after ourselves as well.
