When it comes to camping, people have very different opinions and what camping is really. If you ask a backwoods camper if RV camping is really camping, you might be shocked at their answer of “No!”.
However, we like to think that anyone can enjoy the outdoors anyway they feel comfortable. Some people would not ever go out and enjoy nature if all there was to do is backwoods camping. Some people like their showers and minor conveniences. Others, however, do like to get more with nature and that’s okay too.
We don’t always agree with everyone and that’s okay too. The important camping rules do apply to all campers. The number one rule is to take out everything you bring in. Basically clean up after yourself and don’t leave a mess.
This is a rule that all campers need to follow whether you are in a fancy RV or just tenting it. That is something I think all campers can agree on as well. But, bringing along an air mattress may have some campers raising an eyebrow. We say, let them!
Sleep is Important
Sleep is very important to live. And, without it, people can get pretty grumpy. If you sleep better on an air mattress vs the ground, then so be it. Sure, you probably don’t want to haul that mattress while hiking and this probably isn’t the most ideal for backwoods camping but if you are just tent camping or car camping, why not?
Getting proper sleep will allow you to enjoy your time and you aren’t harming anyone else. Just remember, if you bring that air mat along, you will need a way to blow it up. If you are not going to be a campground where there is power, there are blowers that will connect to the cars’ electrical ports as well.
If you are going to take an air mat with you, be sure you blow it up before you go. Overtime for whatever reason, they can get a hole from just sitting. There is nothing worse than expecting to be sleeping on an air mat and it’s deflated halfway through the night.
Camping in Campgrounds
An air mat is actually pretty common and popular when camping in campgrounds. You will see many campers blowing them up, so don’t think you will be stared at or looked down on. Sure the backwoods campers don’t like that sort of thing but remember, they have to haul their gear for miles too.
You will most likely drive up to the campsite and pitch the tent. It is that easy and simple but you are still enjoying the outdoors, just don’t set up a tv next to the tent and you’ll be fine.
In fact, leaving all your electronics at home will make you even more of a camper. There is no need for them and they are just going to get in the way. Leaving the fan, tv, handheld games and even your phone at home will allow you to get on with nature, which is what camping is meant to do.
