The Jeep Roof Tent or Rooftop tents (RTT) are becoming more and more common as people are taking to their camping. These tents often are simple to set up and keep you off the ground, which helps with bugs and critters. They make rooftop tents for all kinds of makes and models, here we are going to focus on the Jeep Roof Tent.
However, if you have a different car, there is surely something out there that will work for you.
Jeep M49 or M55 Rooftop Tent
Rooftop tents are a great alternative to a regular tent in so many ways, they are easy to put up and easy to take along. They will be ready when you are. A Jeep driver is a group of their own. So, why wouldn’t you want the coolest Jeep tent out there? The Jeep M49 is branded by Jeep, which is really nice. Its carrier has the branded Jeep to match the Jeep vehicle.
The carrier is large enough to hold all your sleeping gear inside the cover, which is nice. It can be put up by one person easily. It can house a tent, but you can just set up the sleeping bag, pillows, and such inside the tent. This tent is better for people under 6′ 2″. The M55 is basically the same but slightly larger and great for taller people.
Rooftop Tents on a Budget
Some of the rooftop tents are $1k-$4k and need a roof rack. This isn’t always in the budget or our Jeep friends. So, how can we do this on a budget? Looking for things on a budget can make things happen. First, the Thule Roof Rack Gutter Mount Foot pack is in order, if you don’t have a roof rack installed already. Once you get the foot pack, you’ll need to get the bars that go with it. This will get you a roof rack system for about $200 and not $100’s and the Smittybuilt Overlander was the best cost for the money.
This tent is under $1000. The Thule is only rated for 165lb, however, this is for running weight and not for sleeping. They have been tested and this system works great! You can be outfitted for around $1000 versus several $1000. The tent weighs about 120 lbs.
Hard Shell Rooftop Jeep Tent
Are you looking for a hardshell roof time tent design? The Ursa Minor J30 Pop Top Jeep tent. This tent is made in the US and is a full top replacement for your Jeep. When closed it adds about 6″ of height to the jeep. It has the ability to be entered into from the inside of the Jeep. As it has essentially made to be apart of the Jeep design.
