For safety reasons, taking your phone with you makes sense. Gone are the days that we can just step out and away from it all without hauling a phone with us. However, we can be smart about it. Take your phone, in case there is an emergency and you need to call for help.  But, leave it off or shut off all the notifications. You don’t need the distractions and whoever is calling, you can call back.

This is a time that unplugging and just being is really relaxing.  It is a time to reflect on life and be one with nature. Doing this with a chiming/blinging phone can be distracting and not at all fun.

However, there are potential risks when going without a phone as well. Health issues could suddenly arise or you could fall on some rocks and hurt yourself. The chances of this happening are slim, but they are still there and having your phone with you can allow you to call for help.

Take your time and enjoy it!

Fishing is a relaxing and enjoyable time that you can spend alone or with a group of friends and family.  It is a time to reflect on life. It is a time that helps many recharge their batteries. Fishing can be super exciting when you land a big one, or it can be quiet and calming.  This helps with today’s stressors as it is a way to unplug and enjoy life.

If you have a very stressful job or don’t feel like you have enough time with your kids, take the afternoon and head out to your favorite fishing spot.  We all need time away from work and requirements. It makes us better people for it as well. Taking a minute to do something you love is important to the overall balance of life.

The great thing about fishing is that it doesn’t take a ton of time either.  You can grab a pole and go for an hour. Or, if you want, you can take an entire day.  Some people plan trips around fishing. This could be a long weekend with camping and fishing on the agenda or it could be that you go to Florida or Texas and go out on a charter.  There is also charter fishing in the Great Lakes as well.

What to pack for a fishing trip

Other things you should pack, should you be planning on charter fishing are things such as sunblock, food, drinks, and anti-nausea meds.  If you don’t know if you have a tendency to get sick, you should take them just in case. This will ensure that you enjoy your fishing trip and not “feed the fish” the entire time. Seasickness is nothing to mess around with and it is really hard to recover from until you are on land.

During a charter boat operation, you probably could leave your phone at home. Most charter boats have radios that allow them to report to shore in the event of an emergency. This will allow you to totally get away from your phone and really get into what you are about to experience on the charter boat.

Taking your phone actually may cause more damage then it is worth as well. When you are wrestling with those large ocean fish, your phone could easily get dislodge from your pocket and fall into the ocean.
