When looking for the best stargazing spots, you need to take into account the number of lights that are around you. If you are in a city full of lights, you will never get to see the depth of the stars. However, leave the city and explore areas that aren’t lite up to see the beauty in the ski. Getting further and further out will allow you to really get into the dark of the night, and the very best ski to see this amazing wonder.
National Bridges National Monument
Utah is a beautiful place and a place that many love to go and enjoy the unique terrain. However, it is also home to National Bridges National Monument which is a wonderful place that is perfect for enjoying the night sky.
At this national monument, you can enjoy hiking as well as enjoying the caves that were naturally carved by the streams. If you are lucky you might even get to see some of their unique wildlife as well. And, there are old Native American ruins nearby as well. This great place is out there, free from other light disruption, allowing you to really see the beauty in the sky with your naked eye.
Death Valley National Park
At this park, there is a vast desert that keeps the lighting out and allows the sky to start right in front of you. This vast park has miles of desert and nothing more. Enjoy the flora of the desert and maybe you’ll get lucky and spot a critter or two.
This park is amazing to see in the daytime as well as when the evening sky starts to appear. The sky here seems to go on forever and is truly a sight to see. The desert can be very cold at night so be sure to bring proper clothing to enjoy this amazing view.
Dry Tortugas National Park
Florida is a popular vacation destination, so why not do a little star gazing while you are at it? Dry Tortugas National Park is located in Florida and offers some amazing sky views in nice warm weather.
This park is located in the Florida keys and has some of the best weather for stargazing in all of the US. However, there is only primitive camping, so you will have to bring all of your own supplies. But, the beaches here are amazing and the stillness of the area is perfect. If you decide to go stargazing here you will feel like the only person left on the planet.
The Headlands International Dark Sky Park
Michigan has some amazing sights to see as well as the beautiful great lakes to visit. However, there is amazing star gazing options here as well. Here, there is no camping allowed but it is completely free to go to the park.
This park is located on beautiful Lake Michigan. The sky over the lake offers a beautiful and obstruction-free view. There are many campgrounds near the Headlands and you can certainly get a great view of the sky from those as well. But, they will not be the same as what you get in Headlands.
