So you are thinking about getting out there and enjoying some of the amazing campgrounds there are in your area. Camping has been on the rise in recent years and it is no wonder. It is an affordable way to travel with a family and it is pretty nice to unplug and see the country. However, camping with a family does come with some simple camping etiquette that you should follow.
Do not walk through other campsites
Yep, you just don’t need to do it. There are so many trails and roads that you can walk on in campgrounds that you don’t have to invade someone’s space. Similar to having neighbors at home, you have neighbors at the campground so be nice and respect others.
Be mindful of Noise
Again, you have neighbors. So, be mindful of the noise that you are making. Noise can travel in campgrounds too, especially if you are camping near water.
Keep kids under control
Not everyone thinks your kids are super cute. In fact, there are people camping trying to get away from their own kids. So, keep your kids under control and know where they are at all times. Explain to them these rules so they understand and can follow as well.
Kids should certainly enjoy camping alongside you, but remember, not everyone is kid-friendly. And, be sure you explain they cannot throw a ball through a campsite or run through people’s yards. Respect the other campers.
Clean up after yourself
Leave your campsite in the same or better condition than when you found it. Clean up after yourself.
Respect the Campground Facilities
If the campground has restrooms and such, respect them. Be sure to leave them as clean as you found them.
Be friendly
Remember you are all away from home. So if you see someone struggling offer to help if you can. This gesture costs nothing. It is pretty simple. Treat people as you would like to be treated.
Be aware of your lighting
Some people are not fans of lights while they are sleeping. So, be mindful of your lighting. Do you have the place all lit up for no reason? If you like to sleep with the lights on, then you may consider getting some shades or curtains for your camper.
Don’t wash your dishes in the bathroom
Your dishes are not to go to the bathroom. You shouldn’t use up a whole sink area for just you. This could leave behind a mess as well. There are usually camp kitchens that are suited for this task. Or gather some water in a bucket and wash them up back at the picnic table.
Respect the local wildlife
You are in their home, respect them. Do not feed them. And, get rid of your trash in the appropriate receptacles to ensure they don’t rummage through it and make a huge mess. Do not chase the wildlife and certainly do not try to handle them.
Read and Understand the rules for your campground
Before heading out, be sure you read the rules of your campground. Things such as if pets are allowed and if there is a curfew are good ones to know before you show up. We have put up a list of the do’s and don’ts in the campground, please read it.
