In this demanding world, our kids are growing up with access to things at just about any time. Gone are the days that you ordered something via catalog and waiting 6 weeks for the arrival. We are a day and age where things are almost instant, which is not helping to teach our kids about patience and that you need to take time to learn, grow, and understand things.
Taking your child fishing will show the child how to be patient. Fishing isn’t something that offers instant gratification. While it can offer instant gratification, from time to time, most fishing days you’re trying your best with what skills you have.
Which is another reason that teaching your child to fish is so important? Haven’t you heard the saying? “Give them food they eat for a day, teach them to fish and they eat for a lifetime.” Fishing is a great skill to have! Showing them what the different types of fish are and how to prepare them for cooking is a wonderful skill. It is also a great way to spend the day with your child.
Unplug and enjoy nature
Fishing is a great way to unplug from technology as well. Fishing gets you out in nature and back to our roots. We have been fishing for many generations and it really hasn’t gotten any different from when our ancestors fished. Sure, you can go get all the latest gadgets and technology. However, going about it as we have for generations is still a great time.
Fishing is nice because you don’t have to spend a lot of money to do it. A simple rod and reel and get out! You don’t even need a boat, many people fish on the side of the rivers and streams. Just grab a rod, some fishing tackle or bait, and a bucket or two and head out. You will need to ensure you get the proper licensing for your state, however. This is pretty easily done, just stop by a fishing store and ask what that would be. This is different for all areas and states.
Fishing helps kids with communication skills. In this day and age, we all talk via text and rarely have phone conversations. But, when you take a kid fishing you are showing them how to do something. You are communicating with them, which also shows them that you care. You can show them how to catch and release properly so that the fish is not harmed.
Fishing is Bonding time
Fishing is something that can help grow a bond between you and your children for life. This is something that many people really enjoy and it can be enjoyed across generations.
The excitement of getting a big fish doubles when you are with those you love. So take some time and get your child out fishing. It is time that you will forever cherish and enjoy. These are memories that will last a lifetime and isn’t that what life is about?
